Bubba & Me
The loudest voice in radio and a loudmouth from Holyoke. Let me tell you about me and Bubba the Love Sponge.
Who Is Bubba
Let me set the scene. Bubba the Love Sponge — born Todd Clem, out of Tampa, Florida — is one of the most notorious shock jocks who ever grabbed a microphone. The voice that could crack a room in half. The man who built an army out of a radio signal. When Howard Stern pulled him over to satellite radio, that told you everything: when it comes to raw radio, there’s Bubba, and then there’s everybody else.
How I Got On The Air
I was just another guy in the Bubba Army, listening in, until the day I called into The Bubba the Love Sponge Show and absolutely went off. Full promo. No brakes. And Bubba — the man who’s heard every character in the world — kept me on the line. Next thing I know I’m a regular. Punk from Holyoke, live on the air, trading shots with a legend.
The Bits
That’s where the magic lived. The call-ins. The bits. The catchphrases the Army ran into the ground. Bubba would tee it up and I’d swing for the fences, and the whole show would come apart at the seams laughing. No ring, no ref — just a phone line and two guys who understood the same brand of chaos.
The Bubba Army
You don’t just listen to Bubba, you enlist. The Bubba Army is a brotherhood of people who found their people through a radio dial and a subscription feed. They adopted me. They chanted my name in the comments before they ever saw me in a ring. That’s a fanbase money can’t buy.
Today
And when things got hard for me? The Army was on it before the hospital even had my chart, and Bubba put the word out on the air. That’s the thing about radio family — the signal reaches everywhere, and so does the love. Bubba’s in my corner. The Army’s in my corner. I am not doing this alone.
“Bubba’s the only man alive who could talk his way out of anything AND into your heart in the same breath. When it got hard for me, the Bubba Army beat the doctors to it.”— Holyoke Joe
